Wayanad:

Rich in wildlife, Wayanad's mountainous terrain houses the best in wildlife and spreads the aroma of coffee, cardamom and vanilla. Situated in the southern region of the Deccan plateau bordering Karnataka state, mercury dips to cooler Celsius. Untouched by rail or air traffic the only way you can inhale Wayanad's freshness is by road.

Located between the North Latitude 11027' and 15058' and East Longitude 75047' and 70027', district of Wayanad is on the southern tip of the Deccan plateau. On it's North, South and West lie the districts of Kannur, Malappuram and Kozhikode (Calicut ). To it's North and East, it borders the Karnataka districts of Coorg and Mysore . Further to the southeast lies the Nilgiri district of Tamilnadu.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the north-east and Mudumalai of Tamilnadu on the south-east. Rich in bio-diversity, the Wayanad area is integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, which has been established with the specific objective of conserving the biological heritage of the region

Consisting mostly of notified reserve, the Wayanad Wildlife
Sanctuary is very rich in fauna and flora. The management of the sanctuary lays emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration to the general lifestyle of the indigenous people and others who live on the fringes of the forest.

  How to get there

Wayanad is accessible from all parts of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamilnadu by road. Closest Airport in Calicut is 02.30 hrs away from Wayanad. Wayanad is accessible only by road. Wayanad is an entry point to Kerala for many travellers from Bangalore, Mysore and Coorg in Karnataka.

Nearest railway station Calicut is 75 kms away. NH 212 Highway connecting Calicut to Mysore is only 3kms away. Calicut airport is two hour's drive.
