The Blue Yonder began life in 2005 as a social enterprise that harnessed the power of responsible tourism to breathe life into a threatened river civilisation in the South Indian state of Kerala. Since then we have discovered the huge potential in tourism as a platform to bring about sustainable development in other parts of India. The Blue Yonder is now at the forefront of promoting responsible tourism as the best path forward for the travel business worldwide.
We believe that travel should build meaningful connections between travellers and the destinations they visit. That's why our destination expertise goes far beyond knowing the best hotels, restaurants, tourist sights and cultural programs to visit.
As our guest, you'll be introduced to many dimensions of the reality of local life, from livelihood issues to community health care, microfinance to the empowerment of young people. You'll have a chance to connect with your local hosts on a deeply engaged level. And you'll get to explore, enjoy and unwind in some of the most beautiful and fascinating places on earth.
Our ethos
From the very beginning we have designed our holidays around the simple ethos proffered by Mahatma Gandhi: "Think of the poorest person you have ever seen, and ask if your next act will be of any use to him."
Whenever we begin developing a new itinerary our first concern is to make sure the trip makes a positive difference to local people, while giving a meaningful and memorable experience to travellers. Our ambition for every trip is to offer our guests a deep but fun learning experience, and to give an injection of support to social businesses and community-led initiatives in the destination – whether that support come in the form of enthusiasm, donations or volunteer help.
As an organisation, we believe we can be the change we want to see in the world, by helping to build up an ecosystem of businesses that thrive on innovation and entrepreneurship, and that share our values of sustainability and ethical treatment for all employees.
