River Nila - Malappuram
District Map
|
Riverside Retreat: Set on the banks of
river Nila (Bharatapuzha), centrally located between Cochin and Calicut , and accessible by road, rail and air.
River Nila:
While Kerala is ranked as a top ten destination in the world, some parts of Kerala still remain unknown and unvisited. The river Nila, the longest river in Kerala (209kms) offers one of the most unique cultural experiences as it has an ancient and steeped in tradition river civilization. Be it the classical Kathakali or ritualistic folk art forms or temple festivals or literary traditions, you can trace a definite and indelible impact of the river Nila in each and every aspect.

From our Guest Register
‘I was so impressed to see what one can do in one week on the banks of river nila. Just impressive. The way holiday was arranged ,it was easy for us to interact with the local people, which is really missing in any typical tourists programs in Kerala. On one hand we got to see the beauty of the river banks and on the other we got an exposure to the cultural richness of the river in a unique way.' Ivan Maoura, Switzerland
'Your programs have people at its core. The seven day spent with your team on the banks of river Nila was a seven star experience, especially the cultural interaction and festival trails. Looking forward to visiting you all again. I am not sure if I would have seen Kerala this way if I had travelled with some one else.'
Jean Francois UCPA, Marseilles, France
'Thanks for this India 'song' Time was suspended here. The peaceful silence was the music that I shall never forget.'
Christelle Palpacuer, Olemps France.
'A wonderful way to experience this delightful part of India
Liz, John, Andrew, Simone, Margret, Victoria Australia
'Though I have seen this river while coming for holidays to Kerala, I frankly didn't know much about its heritage and richness. Next time I travel through Kerala, I am sure, I will be looking at the river in a way you guys have shown us through the last one week. Marvellous work. Good luck! Meghala Nair, Travel Writer
From the window of my cottage at the Riverside Retreat,
I stood gazing at the Nila as it shimmered in the early morning light. Somewhere in the distance I heard a peacock scream. I was determined to shrug the usual tyranny of tourism. I would lie-in and settle for a late morning splash as the whim took me. I wasn't going to run hither and thither, and instead would take a cue from the Nila and meander lazily through the day.
