A CGH Earth experience
Puducherry is where French elegance meets Indian exotica. The former French colony in south India is situated on the Bay of Bengal and is a stylish getaway for anyone looking for inner peace, a bit of romantic quiet or a walk into history. For Puducherry, which was a small fishing village in the18th century, was once home to the Portuguese, the Dutch, the Danes, the English and to the French, who handed power to the Indian government in 1954. But the quaint town is still a hotspot for Europeans, particularly the French, who flock to and settle in the international Auroville township. The heritage structures give the town a grand, romantic feel, and Maison Perumal is a combination of the best of French and Indian styles. Even the name is indicative of the coming together of the two cultures. Situated in the Tamil Quarter of Puducherry, the old house, get its name from Rue Perumal Kovil, the street that is situated on, and is one of the rare heritage structures that has been restored in this quarter. The Maison's traditional Tamil personality comes through in its two courtyards, the thalvaram (street verandah) and the thinnai (veranda around the house). The fluted pilaster and arched windows give it a French charm.
About the Rooms:
Single Room Category- 8 Large bedded rooms and 2 Twins
Maison Perumal is a tasteful blend of old-world Tamil and French architectural styles. Verandahs and sit out areas speak of the Tamil heritage while the arched windows and stylized colonnades reflect their French colonial ancestry. The materials are typically local, with cool Cuduppah stone underfoot and teak furniture lending its special richness. The only sign of modernity is the air-conditioner humming unobtrusively in the background.
Culinary Experiences:
Perumal: Serves Creole cuisine, which is the typical amalgamation of French and Tamil flavours. The Chef will be happy to take specific requests as also welcome you into the kitchen and have you take a tip or two.
